Haiku
/ Diamonte
(poetry by first and third grade students)

Children at the Academy for Children Montessori School in Fargo are learning the basic elements of poetry. Instructor Natalie Hagen incorporated poetry in her curriculum with her first through third grade students. Diamonte and Haiku poetry are two types of poetry the students wrote.
Diamonte poetry is created by using shapes such as triangles, circles or squares and associating each with a noun, verb or adjective. Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry using words to fit into syllable patterns
