After searching for story ideas, Katy McMullen made connections with Fargo's Bosnian community which lead to a documentary piece on the Balkan Market's store owners. Although McMullen found the language barrier difficult at times, she felt privileged to have been introduced to the community, which includes over 2,000 people. She was also grateful for the market's owners, Jasmin and Tatjana Fazlovic, who were always helpful with her project. McMullen also photographed the post offices of Pembina County. The role these humble structures play in their communities intriqued her. Because many of the towns disappear when the post offices closes, McMullen felt it was important to document these landscapes before they disapeared |
